Third year, first semester: Hybrid creatures, between human and non-human

I create hybrid beings in between human and non-human animals to show the need to re-unite with our natural surroundings in order to find our inner selves and manage to express ourselves fully, without repressing instinctive/animalistic feelings.

I explore what it means to be animal and acknowledge the true animal-like nature of humans.

I am inspired by the historical idea of humans with a dual nature, in between beastly and divine creatures. Yet, I put forward a more complex utopic vision that wants to see humans as embedded within nature and that take on elements of non-human creatures.

Sculpture and drawing are used to express the topic.

Above, 2 charcoal drawings and 1 acrylic painting
